About
BjornQorn Sun-Popped Popcorn is a vegan popcorn made in Ulster county in a solar powered popcorn facility. The popcorn is grown and processed locally and also on the founder's family farm in Minnesota. It is popped in a custom solar electric facility and distributed to retail customers nationwide and sold directly on their website BjornQorn.com as well. Most of their popcorn flavors incorporate an ingredient called nutritional yeast (nooch). This ingredient gives BjornQorn its cheesy umami flavor as well as its high amount of B-vitamins and protein.
Why we're Green
We power our kitchen with 100% solar energy and pioneer research projects for solar thermal energy uses. Our main challenge is the reliance on single use plastics for packaging. We figured high shelf life renewable solutions would be available by now, but we continue to wait for that technology to develop. In the meantime we try to use as little material per package as possible and avoid metalized materials on our packaging films that decrease the possibility for recycling. We also manage our popcorn supply chain by buying popcorn seed for planting, working directly with farms, and even processing the grain ourselves in our solar electric grain drying and cleaning facility.
