About
The Harker School is a K-12, coeducational, private, non-profit school in Silicon Valley that has earned international recognition for its top academics, quality teachers and student achievements. Founded in 1893 and educating 2,040 students, Harker is the largest independent school of its kind in California. We have a beautiful, expansive campus specifically designed for each of our three divisions - lower, middle and upper - where our students enjoy outstanding facilities, leading-edge technology and inspiring faculty who help them become the best they can be.
Why we're Green
In 2016 Harker became certified as a Bay Area Green Business by the county of Santa Clara. This honor is a culmination of decades of environmental awareness and a continuing effort to bring sustainability to all aspects of our school. Our Green Mission is "modeling and teaching a sustainable relationship with the environment."
Being green isn't just for teachers and students. Our entire community gets into the act. Our Sustainability Committee has representatives from the faculty and several support offices. We also have an environmentally friendly purchasing policy; use 30% recycled paper in printer and photocopies and encourage reductions among offices and classrooms; and our successful implementation of a "wet/dry" recycling system earned us a commendation from the city of San Jose.
We are also partnering with the Muwekma OhloneTribe’s recycling programs, which include The Green Education Foundation and Seventh Generation Recycling.
