About
The Exploratorium is more than a museum; it’s a playful learning laboratory of more than 650 interactive exhibits and experiences that ignite curiosity and transform the way people of all ages learn. Since 1969, the Exploratorium has influenced generations of entrepreneurs, artists, scientists, teachers, students, children, museum professionals, makers and everyday doers, reaching nearly 180 million people annually from around the globe.
Why we're Green
Many of the building’s sustainability features are exposed for you to discover during your visit. Our building on Pier 15 has won numerous awards for sustainability, and is fitted with sensors that help scientists better understand the impact of climate change in urban settings. From exploration grows understanding; from understanding, action.
Located at the edge of downtown with ample access to public transportation, even the journey to the Exploratorium is a step forward in reducing our carbon footprint. Our partnership with BART that gives free access to thousands of students each year means that even more people are able to explore our sustainable practices. We invite you to walk, bike, or bus to our location on Pier 15, and see for yourself.
